Vee Vargas is a trailblazer in the beauty industry and a beacon of empowerment for the communities she represents. After 12 years of dominating the luxury hair game, this queer, first-generation Latina realized something needed to change.

Today, Vee is the visionary behind Be Infinite, a groundbreaking cosmetology apprenticeship program that bridges the gap for BIPOC, LGBTQIA2S+, and first-generation youth aged 16 to 24. Her mission? To create a pathway for these underrepresented groups to thrive in high-end salons—an industry that has historically marginalized both customers and professionals.

“There were so many talented individuals from BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ communities who didn’t have the same access to opportunities in luxury spaces,” Vee told FIERCE. “I realized the need for an apprenticeship program that would create a pathway for these groups, giving them access to high-end training, mentorship, and the economic empowerment that comes with working in the luxury hair industry.”

The Birth of Be Infinite

The idea for Be Infinite didn’t just come out of nowhere—it was born from Vee’s personal journey navigating a beauty industry that didn’t always feel inclusive or supportive of her identity. It was also shaped by the systemic inequities she witnessed impacting marginalized communities like survivors of sexual and domestic abuse, as well as formerly incarcerated individuals.

Now, with Be Infinite, Vee Vargas is creating a ripple effect of change. The cosmetology apprenticeship program offers trauma-informed teaching, providing a safe and inclusive environment where students can thrive not only as stylists but also as individuals.

The program recognizes that many of its students have experienced significant trauma, whether personal, historical, or generational. This unique approach to training ensures that Be Infinite’s graduates are not only masters of their craft but also sensitive and empathetic professionals capable of creating inclusive spaces for clients.

“Understanding how to create a safe, non-triggering space allows us to build trust with both clients and apprentices,” Vee shared. “This framework empowers our students to develop confidence, resilience, and the ability to connect deeply with their clients in a way that goes beyond hair services.”

A One-Day Wellness Event for Hispanic Heritage Month

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Be Infinite hosted a Latinx Wellness One-Day Fundraiser on October 6th in Oakland, CA. The event aimed to raise awareness about health and wellness issues impacting the Latinx community while highlighting local Latinx voices and businesses.

With wellness activities led by That Art Party, authentic Mexican street snacks crafted by YoYo Treats, and a vendor market curated by Gemini Moon Botanicals, the event was a testament to Vee’s commitment to creating spaces for healing and empowerment.

“The Latinx Wellness event is a direct extension of Be Infinite’s mission to create spaces for healing, empowerment, and community-building,” Vee explained. “The goal was to create a space where people feel empowered to prioritize their well-being while also being part of a larger, supportive community.”

Bridging the Divide in the Beauty Industry

While the beauty industry often marginalizes both customers and professionals from underserved communities, Be Infinite is working to dismantle these barriers.

The apprenticeship program, rooted in trauma-informed teaching, equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in high-end salons.

Be Infinite’s curriculum is designed with inclusivity at its core. It recognizes the unique needs of different hair types and ensures that all salons are safe spaces where both clients and professionals can feel seen and valued.

What’s Next for Be Infinite?

Vee Vargas has big dreams for the future of Be Infinite. She aims to expand the apprenticeship program, creating more opportunities for individuals from marginalized communities to access the luxury hair industry.

Vee also plans to deepen the curriculum by offering specialized workshops on topics such as eco-conscious styling and holistic beauty practices.

Additionally, a scholarship fund is on the horizon to support students who may not have the financial means to participate.

“We are actively seeking sponsors, supporters, and folks to join us in changing the narrative,” Vee said. “Together, we can revolutionize the beauty industry, making it more equitable, inclusive, and sustainable, while continuing to create spaces where both professionals and clients can thrive.”
