What Zohran Mamdani’s Astrological Chart Says About the Future of U.S. Politics
What do astrology and numerology have to do with the latest mayoral elections in the U.S.? A lot, according to experts.
With the Democratic Party notching major wins, the latest elections have sparked comprehensive analysis across fields. People have dissected every aspect of candidates’ and elected officials’ careers, political strategy, and campaigns. Today, headlines are dominated by the political significance of Zohran Mamdani’s appointment as New York City’s first Muslim mayor. But so do fashion and astrology articles delving into topics like Rama Duwaji, Mamdani’s wife, and the mayor’s natal chart.
The deep dives have reached astrology circles
Democratic socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani’s win will place him as the next mayor of the largest US city. He is the first NYC mayor of South Asian descent and the first born in Africa (Uganda). When he takes office in January, Mamdani will also become the city’s youngest mayor in more than a century.
His victory was no coincidence. In addition to a strong campaign that addressed New Yorkans’ most significant concerns, planets aligned for the politician and the non-incumbents. Or so astrologers say.
The latest election took place amid a Tauro Full Moon and as Pluto is out of bounds to the South. (Remember that Pluto entered Aquarius on November 19 last year and will remain there for the next 19 years.) In astronomical terms, “out of bounds” refers to a planet straying the farthest from the Sun. Experts believe that during these periods, energy levels rise. As Pluto, the planet of death and transformation, rules, major societal and political shifts are expected.
Meanwhile, the Tauro Full Moon represented breakthrough moments and culmination
In an article for Astrology.com, astrologer Adama Sesay explained what this Full Moon represented. “This lunar planetary alignment is pushing the collective to decide what’s worth holding on to,” she wrote. “And what should be purged in order to create space for something more aligned to take its place?”
Evan Nathaniel Grim, meanwhile, stressed that the Full Moon in Taurus would emphasize the need for nourishment and stability. “So this Full Moon is reminding us that when it gets chaotic, we need to go back to our essential needs,” said Grim.
Astrology enthusiasts have been quick to draw parallels and connections to the election results. Taurus’ emphasis on basic resources such as food and shelter coincided with the campaign pillars of politicians sweeping the electoral race. Zohran Mamdani, for example, went back to the basics, campaigning for affordable housing, transportation, and food.
Numerology might also be indicating new beginnings
The internet has been especially focused on Zohran Mamdani, with his natal chart thoroughly dissected. People have used astrology as a window to explain the elected mayor’s charismatic presence (Leo rising). It has also served as a lens to understand his humanitarian disposition and community-oriented mindset (Aquarius Moon).
On TikTok, Mamdani’s connection to the number 1 has been at the center of social media conversation. Mamdani is set to become NYC’s 111th mayor when he takes office on January 1. New York was the 11th state to join the United States.
According to numerology, 1 represents new beginnings, manifestation, and opportunities. Numerology enthusiasts also point out that the angel number 111 is directly linked to divine alignment. On the internet, users are taking Mamdani’s connection to this number as an auspicious sign for his tenure.
What could astrology anticipate for the midterms?
Following the Full Moon in Taurus, Uranus steps back in Taurus (retrograde) on November 7.
This alignment ushers in what’s known as a “Great Awakener.” Although on the surface Uranus brings chaotic and disruptive energy, the shifts during this period will make place for “truth, innovation, and liberation.”
Connoisseurs consider this a period of departure from the established order and old habits. “You can think of this as a pretty intense watershed moment for the Democratic Party,” says Tasha Beg in a social media post. “Taurus rules the throat, money and resources,” the astrologer, best known as thepopastrologist, adds. “The fact that Zohran is campaigning on affordability while Trump is threatening to withhold federal funding is interesting.”
Uranus will be retrograde until February 2026. The planet will then enter Gemini in April, just as the run for midterms kicks off with special and primary elections. Astrologers believe this period will see progress and conflict side by side. Gemini is the ruler of technology, literacy, and innovation. With Uranus influencing Gemini, conflict and misinformation campaigns might be the order of the day. (Remember that the last time Uranus was in Gemini, a Civil War and World War II broke out.)
However, this intersection between Uranus and Gemini may also indicate a shift towards more progressive positions. “Uranus is the rebel planet, so the collective might be ready for revolution, which could come through unions, class consciousness, and cultural change,” writes astrologer Theresa Reed. “The status quo might fall out of favor and get the heave-ho. This will not come without conflict. Instead, we must be ready to push back and fight for our ideals.”
