Olivia Rodrigo Launches Fund 4 Good and Supports Reproductive Health Nonprofits on GUTS World Tour
If all stars used their platforms like Olivia Rodrigo does, the world would be a very different place. The crowned pop princess not only kicked off her GUTS World Tour on Friday. She announced that a portion of ticket sales will go to NGOs that help women and girls access reproductive health.
On her North American tour, Olivia Rodrigo partnered with the National Network of Abortion Funds to offer information and resources at each of the tour stops.
I’ll be partnering with the National Network of Abortion Funds to help those impacted by healthcare barriers in getting the reproductive care they deserve,” Rodrigo said in a video posted on Friday. “Thank you so much for supporting this cause that I care so deeply about.”
Olivia Rodrigo’s commitment comes at a pivotal time for reproductive rights
Rodrigo’s tour will visit the U.S. and Canada through April. The tour will unfold amid an election year and a wave of national restrictions against abortion and reproductive rights.
Alongside her collaboration with NNAF, Olivia Rodrigo also launched her organization, Fund 4 Good, in support of reproductive health.
“The fund will directly support community-based nonprofits that champion things like girls’ education, support reproductive rights, and prevent gender-based violence,” continued the “Vampire” singer, noting that Fund 4 Good tables with resources for fans will be set up at all of her Guts tour stops.
Rodrigo will visit states such as Texas, Florida, Arizona, North Carolina, and Tennessee, where abortion is banned in almost all circumstances or after about six weeks of pregnancy.
Fundraising from her tour could make it easier for women to travel to states where abortion is legal. Furthermore, it could facilitate the work of organizations that provide a safety net for women and girls.
When the stars put their money where their mouth is
Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Rodrigo has been vocal about her rejection of measures that restrict women’s right to decide about their own bodies.
At the 2022 Glastonbury Festival, a day after the Supreme Court decision was made public, Rodrigo performed “Fuck You” alongside Lily Allen.
“I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have shown us that, at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a shit about freedom,” she said. “The song goes out to the justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh. We hate you.”
Days later, at her concert in Washington D.C., Rodrigo did it again.
“Because we’re in D.C., I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to say how heartbroken I am over the Supreme Court’s potential decision,” Rodrigo said as the crowd began to cheer.
“Our bodies should never be in the hands of politicians,” she added. “I hope we can raise our voices to protect our right to have a safe abortion, which is a right that so many people before us have worked so hard to get.”
