Ice Spice To Make Acting Debut Alongside Iconic Director Spike Lee

What do Ice Spice and Akira Kurosawa have in common? Easy: famed director Spike Lee. The Dominican-American rapper will appear in Lee’s upcoming reinterpretation of Kurosawa’s crime thriller, “High and Low.”

As reported by Variety, the project has already begun shooting and will star Denzel Washington.

A new achievement for the famous rapper

At just 24 years old, Ice Spice is already a name in the industry. Born and raised in the Bronx, New York, Spice (née Isis Naija Gaston) is the eldest of five siblings. Her father is African American, and her mother is Dominican. 

Ice Spice began her music career in college in 2021 after meeting producer RiotUSA. Her first hit, “Munch (Feelin’ U),” went viral on TikTok, opening the door to a record deal with 10K Projects and Capitol Records. Following the success of her first EP, “Like..?” in 2023, Billboard dubbed Ice Spice “rap’s new princess.”

Now, Ice Spice will join Denzel Washington and Spike Lee’s fifth collaboration, the first since 2006’s “Inside Man.” 

Developed and produced by A24, Escape Artists, and Mandalay Pictures, “High and Low” features a script by Lee and Alan Fox.

It will be produced by Todd Black (“Emancipation,” “The Equalizer”) for Escape Artists and Jason Michael Berman (“Air,” “Nine Days”) for Mandalay Pictures. Lee will also serve as executive producer through his 40 Acres And A Mule Filmworks. Mandalay’s Peter Guber will serve as executive producer, along with Matthew Lindner, Chris Brigham, and Katia Washington of Juniper Productions. Mandalay’s Jordan Moldo is co-producer.

While shooting her debut in the film industry, Ice Spice just released “Think U The Shit (Fart).” It’s the first taste of her forthcoming debut album, Y2K, which she started teasing last year.
