She Voted for Trump in South Florida — Then ICE Detained Her Dad, and Everything Changed
A South Florida Trump voter with regrets is going viral. She posted a video of herself sobbing because her father had been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Her now-deleted video shows her crying on a Zoom call. She is allegedly asking for leniency from an immigration judge for her father.
A South Florida Trump voter has deep regrets about voting for President Donald Trump
The Trump voter, identified as Cynthia on her TikTok page, shared a video of her pleading with a judge to release her father. She asks for compassion and humanity to release her father from detention since he is dealing with a terminal illness. In her first video on her now-deleted TikTok account, Cynthia pleads for help from people to share her father’s story. She recounts reaching out to elected representatives who said there was nothing they could do.
“No one deserves to go through something like this behind bars. He has lived in Florida for more than half of his life and worked for the same construction job for decades. Every day that goes without him here is a day lost forever,” Cynthia says in the video. “This is about being human, about love, connection, and presence.”
She added: “The American flag stands for compassion, kindness, liberty, and justice for all. We’re all human, and today I am asking for one human act of compassion to please let my dad come home.”
Some social media users are reluctant to give her sympathy for her situation. Despite her tearful plea for her father to have a medical release, the judge denies the request.
In a follow-up video, she attempted to apologize for her vote
Using a TikTok account with a different name, Cynthia confesses to regretting her vote for President Trump. She turned off the comments on the video where she expresses her regret. She also attempts to offer an apology to anyone affected by the Trump administration’s immigration policies.
“I feel like living in South Florida, surrounded by Republican voices, I was brainwashed into thinking that I was one of them,” Cynthia said in the video. “I fell for the propaganda, the normalization of cruelty, and I believed the lies that gave me a false sense of security and belonging.”
She added: “I was convinced that voting for Trump was for the economy or against crime when in reality I was supporting a man and a movement that dehumanizes people.”
There are several social media comments and posts calling her out for voting for President Trump in the first place.
“I regret my vote so so so deeply, and if I could go back and change it, I would. My vote wasn’t just a mistake; it was the ultimate betrayal of the very people that I come from,” Cynthia reflected in her video. “My dad isn’t a criminal. He was a hard-working man. He raised me and my four siblings, and now he’s fighting for his life in a cell. I’m still fighting with everything I have to see if I can get him released so he can spend his final days at home surrounded by his family and his children.”
