Shakira Turns Her San Antonio Show Into a Powerful Tribute to Texas Flood Victims
What started as a rescheduled concert turned into something far more meaningful. Colombian superstar Shakira dedicated her San Antonio stop on the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour to the victims of the devastating floods in Central Texas and took real action to support them.
Her heartfelt words and donation announcement came just hours before she hit the stage at the Alamodome. Shakira pledged to donate a portion of the concert’s proceeds to Catholic Charities of San Antonio, which is currently providing disaster relief to impacted families.
Shakira’s Response Was Immediate and Deeply Personal
Shakira landed in San Antonio on July 4, just as heartbreaking news of the floods began to unfold. According to Remezcla, the Guadalupe River rose more than 26 feet within 45 minutes, causing flash floods that devastated Kerr County.
“I just landed in San Antonio, devastated to hear the news of the floods, the deaths, and the girls still missing,” Shakira wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I can only think of their families and their immense pain. My prayers are with you on this sad day.”
The floods have claimed at least 90 lives, including 27 girls from Camp Mystic, as reported by the Austin American-Statesman. Dozens more are still missing.
She Dedicated the Entire Alamodome Show to the Victims
On July 5, just hours before her concert, Shakira shared another message on social media:
“Dear San Antonio, Our hearts and prayers are with those affected by the flood in Central Texas. We are donating a portion of tonight’s show proceeds to Catholic Charities of San Antonio, which is providing disaster relief to the families impacted. If you would like to join me in making a donation, please click the link below. Your help is important and appreciated.”
That night, more than 40,000 fans filled the Alamodome for what became an emotional and unified moment. During the show, Shakira paused to speak directly to the audience.
“Tonight, my heart is in mourning for this terrible tragedy that has happened here in Texas,” she said. “I can only think about the affected families and their pain.”
She continued, “I want to dedicate this concert to those who are no longer with us, to their families, and to those of us still here. Today is a day to appreciate the moments we have with the people we love. San Antonio, my heart is with you tonight.”
Other Celebrities Are Also Speaking Out
Shakira isn’t the only one offering support. According to the Austin American-Statesman, Matthew McConaughey, Eva Longoria, Khloé Kardashian, Billie Eilish, and Lana Del Rey have all used their platforms to express condolences.
McConaughey, who was born in Uvalde, Texas, wrote on X, “At least 70 lives have been lost, many more are unaccounted for, and countless Texans are hurting—inside and out.”
Eva Longoria, a Corpus Christi native, posted, “It’s a heavy world right now, and I hope everyone is taking care of their mental health.”
Khloé Kardashian shared, “The loss of those sweet, innocent children is something I can’t fully process.”
Even the NFL is stepping in. The league announced a $1.5 million contribution to flood recovery efforts, including donations from the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans.
