Karol G Restores Her Childhood School—And Gives 600 Students the Glow-Up They Deserve
Karol G, known for her philanthropic work through her Con Cora Foundation, returned to her hometown of Medellín. After the success of her world tour, she came home to celebrate the reopening of Colegio Arenys de Mar, her former elementary school.
After two years of extensive restoration, the institution is now set to offer quality education to 600 students.
A Project Close to Karol G’s Heart
The Colombian superstar shared her joy and pride during the reopening event. “I wore the same uniform that the girls here are wearing. It makes me so happy to say that this is a dream come true, being part of a project that will positively impact so many people,” Karol G expressed.
Her connection to the school runs deep. And she used the moment to encourage the students to appreciate their time in school.
“I have often dreamed of returning to school because those are very special moments. When you are here, you visualize your life and dream with friends. I want you to be very happy and study hard. Always remember to believe in yourselves,” she added.
The Con Cora Foundation’s Role in the Restoration
Colegio Arenys de Mar’s reopening follows two years of restoration led by the Con Cora Foundation. The school was forced to close in December 2022 after severe damage caused by heavy rains.
The restoration work included the construction of a new retaining wall to protect the school. The foundation also helped with the renovation of key infrastructure like classrooms and bathrooms, as well as the addition of a playground and a new technology room.
The foundation highlighted the project’s importance in a statement: “This initiative is in complete alignment with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) established by the United Nations, which strives to ensure quality education for all.”
Karol G’s presence at the event was not only symbolic of her connection to the school. It was also a testament to her ongoing commitment to improving education in her community.
She emphasized the transformative power of education, stating, “A quality education is key for children to build their dreams. I hope each student keeps their curiosity alive because education not only opens doors but transforms lives.”
A Celebration for the Community
The reopening was celebrated with an event attended by more than 600 students and their families. They explored the newly restored facilities, enjoyed face painting, inflatables, and food, and received school supplies. The event also featured a performance by Karol G, where she sang her hit “Si antes te hubiera conocido,” with the children passionately singing along.
Reflecting on the event’s impact, fans on social media praised Karol G’s efforts, with comments such as, “Karol has become an example to follow” and “Her foundation is doing incredible work for the youth of Colombia.”
How Karol G Continues to Empower Through Education and Art
The Con Cora Foundation also collaborated with a local urban artist to beautify the school with murals that reflect its history and spirit. In addition, the foundation announced a series of art workshops for students, promoting creativity and emotional development. This project, representing an investment of nearly one million dollars, has become one of the foundation’s most significant initiatives to date.
Karol G’s work through the Con Cora Foundation demonstrates the power of education and art to transform lives, solidifying her status as a global music icon and community leader.
The reopening of Colegio Arenys de Mar is just one step in her broader mission to give back to her hometown and empower future generations.
